In memoriam of the katydid I accidentally killed.

This morning I had some blood tests done, just a general checkup to make sure my organs are healthy. When I got into the car, I saw something bright green on my hand and sort of unconciously flicked at it, squishing it in the process. By the way it smooshed and stuck to me, I’d assumed I had a piece of gum on my finger and opened the car window to fling it outside. The green thing swung back toward the window and stuck to the bottom of it, and I realized what I’d thought was gum was actually this katydid. I felt absolutely horrible, I’d accidentally smooshed its backside and there was just no way it’d live. I seriously felt so awful. I know some people will think that’s silly, but consider the fact that I accidentally killed a harmless creature. It may just be a bug, but I like bugs, and katydids are awesome, I rarely ever see one. Rest in peace, little bug.

    • You’re right, it’s kinda deep when you really think about it. So many people don’t give it a second thought because it’s just a small creature, it’s not like they killed a human, but the fact is it’s still a living creature and almost everything on this planet has a purpose. I don’t actually know how/if katydids help the ecological system but if nothing else, they can be food for another creature, that’s still a purpose. lol
