One of the biggest news stories in the country today is the shooting that occurred last night in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. A man named James Holmes entered a theater where patrons were viewing a midnight showing of the new Batman movie, let off a gas canister and started shooting. He wore a gas mask and body armor, and used an assault rifle, a shotgun, a Glock handgun, and had buckets of ammunition in his car which he’d left parked in the back of the theater. He killed 12 people and wounded at least 50, the tally of injured people has been slowly rising. This is one of the deadliest mass shootings in recent U.S. history. The gunman is in custody, he was captured before he even had a chance to flee the scene. As of yet, motivation isn’t known.
I’m glad to know a longtime friend of mine who lives in Aurora is safe, as is her family. My heart goes out to the loved ones of the victims and those who were affected by this tragedy.
