Wild goose chase at the cemetery! *rimshot*

Today mom and I went to Hollywood Forever Cemetery. They have a bunch of different wild birds and we love going there to feed them, I’m not actually sure if it’s allowed but we don’t hide that we’re doing it and we’ve yet to even have anyone approach us about it. After researching what we could give to them, we bought some bags of birdseed mixed with cracked corn and every couple of weeks we head over to feed the birds or just hang out with them. There are a lot of mallard ducks, a large handful of Canada Geese, two Mute Swans, and a growing number of peafowl. There are signs saying the geese are hostile, but the truth is all the birds can be fairly mean with the exception of the domesticated ducks, the white and the Muscovy. The swans are extremely territorial, they’ve claimed the small pool that’s part of the Fairbanks memorial and absolutely do not like it when other birds come over to look for food. Especially the geese.

Today we got to witness one of the swans chasing two geese away, it was quite interesting. It was also a little scary at first considering the swan was literally a mere foot away from us when it first puffed up to scare away the geese, we weren’t sure if it’d come after us as well. We would’ve had nowhere to go other than right into the pool, and although it’s maybe only two feet deep, I’d still rather not have to step into it. We watched for a bit, I took some pictures while mom tossed a couple more handfuls of food into the water for when the swan came back (or in case the mate came over to eat) and then we bolted for the car. Neither of us wanted to find out the swan was still pissed when it came back.

I’m pretty sure this was the male, but I won’t pretend I can tell the difference, which is why I just keep saying “it.”
