Today is October 8th 2011. Today I am ten thousand days old. I’d considered doing something special just for the fun of it, but today turned into a “I’m running errands because I have stuff to do like a real adult” day, though I did have Taco Bell for lunch so that counts well enough.
Now, I know there’s actual math involved and you bet your boots I didn’t do it, I went to a website that does the math for you. So maybe I’m not ten thousand days old, maybe the website forgot to add in leap days or something. But you know what? It says I’m ten thousand so I’m taking its word. If you’re a mathmatical genius with nothing better to do right now, feel free to do the math for me, I was born May 22nd 1984.
It’s one thing to know how many years you’ve been alive, but it’s completely different to know how many days. Looking at a number like 10,000 just makes me sit back and go “Whoa.” I’m a little over 240,000 hours old but that’s just getting crazy. Knowing you’ve lived through ten thousand days really makes you look at your life in a different perspective. I’m not sitting here thinking “I’m only 27,” I’m thinking “Holy crap, I’m 10,000.”
I mean, that’s a whole lot of sunrises I’ve slept through.
Ten thousand days seems like such a bigger deal than 27 years. In another ten thousand days, the year will be 2034 and I’ll be 54, and that just sounds absolutely insane. Twenty thousand days old? I might as well say I’ll be a million years old, that’s such a large number and despite the word “days” it just sounds impossible. Twenty thousand of anything is a lot. Ten thousand of anything is a lot too, but that doesn’t sound quite as crazy. Ten thousand sounds impressive. I’m ten thousand days old!
I’ve realized I should make a bucket list. I sort of have a small unofficial one, but I should make an official one. I’ll have to decide if I want to add a few things I’ve already done though, I’ve done a couple things that were definitely on my unofficial list of “Shit I totally have to do someday.” Starting this project as a 10,000-day-old is better than never starting it!
