Pottermore potions.

Ever since I blogged about Pottermore, most of my search referrals have something to do with it. Especially regarding potions. A few of the searches that lead people here:

  • pottermore potions
  • pottermore potions screenshots
  • tips for brewing potions pottermore
  • pottermore potion ingredients

I won’t post any more screenshots since Pottermore will be open soon and I don’t want to cause any more spoilers for my friends — it’s their own fault if they purposely go find spoilers elsewhere but at least they can read this blog safely — but I’ll help you out a little.

The ingredients and how-to for brewing is mentioned as soon as you start brewing, and you can click on the book again to see the next step once you’ve started your potion.

The biggest tip I can give you is follow these steps exactly as they’re shown, or the potion will be ruined. As I said, you can click on the book again if you’ve forgotten the next step or want to make sure you’re doing it correctly. As you go, each step is crossed off if you did it right. If you didn’t do something right, click the Back arrow (it’s in the upper left of the screen above your mortar), you’ll lose your ingredients but you won’t lose any House points. You can also just write down the steps before you start brewing so you can glance at your notes as you go, I honestly don’t know if the timer stops while you check the book, I brew fairly quickly so I no longer run out of time like I did when I was a beginner. So if you’re worried about running out of time, write down the steps.

You can also use the Back arrow if something freezes up on you. Sometimes the page will glitch and you can’t pick up the ingredient you need. Keep trying, but if time starts to get low, just go back and try again. I have this trouble the most with Dried Billywig Stings and Mistletoe Berries, so don’t freak out if it happens to you too, it’s just a wrinkle that needs to be ironed out while they work on the site.

A general tip about Pottermore is it’s like a game. If you have to try to find cheats and hints on the internet, what you really need to do is work on your total lack of patience and inability to find things out on your own. And if you really can’t figure something out, ask for help in your common room, there are thousands of members all over the world so there’s always a couple dozen people online, somebody will be able to answer your question. Stop Googling and participate, that’s half the point! Just have fun, you’ll get the hang of it.

And to the person who just found this entry by Googling “pottermore cheat codes,” you can just get the hell off Pottermore. Cheat codes? What is wrong with you? Cheating is for losers. If you cheat, your account will be suspended and your house will lose the points you’d earned, they’ve been deliciously strict about that and it serves you right. I’d rather my house lost the Cup than win because of cheaters.
